TEETH ALIGNMENT & STRAIGHTENING (BRACES)

Dental braces for teeth alignment & straightening are more than just a treatment; they pave the way to a healthy, confident smile. Recommended by orthodontist(Braces & aligner specialists), braces can correct various issues, from crooked and crowded teeth to jaw alignment and bite problems.

The advantages go beyond aesthetics, including enhancing oral hygiene, improving speech, and making eating more comfortable. Modern technology has improved braces, offering better comfort, aesthetic appeal, and shorter treatment durations.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EARLY ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF EARLY ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT?

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation around age 7.
At around 7, most children have a mix of baby and permanent teeth. An orthodontist can assess how the permanent teeth are coming in and identify potential issues, including improper jaw relationships (such as a crossbite), excessive crowding, or impacted teeth which might require intervention. Seeing an orthodontist at this age can help avoid more complicated and lengthy treatments in the future.
Orthodontists can use interceptive treatments that work well on younger patients, such as myofunctional appliances. These devices can effectively correct issues while the child’s jaw grows, making future treatment easier and possibly reducing the time needed to wear full braces.

What are the different types of braces?

  • TRADITIONAL METAL BRACES
Traditional metal braces are known for their efficacy and affordability. Metal brackets are affixed to the teeth, and wires thread through them to guide teeth into their correct positions. The wire is usually made of metal alloys optimised for comfort while providing sufficient force to align the teeth. However,They are not aesthetically pleasing
  • CERAMIC BRACES
Ceramic options provide a near-seamless look, blending with your teeth. These brackets are made from either ceramic. They are not visible unless from up close
  • SELF-LIGATING BRACES
A modern type of braces, self-ligating braces, feature brackets with built-in clips or doors to hold the wire. These brackets minimise friction and generally allow for a longer time between appointments. Self-ligating brackets can be made from metal, such as stainless steel, or ceramic. The advantage over traditional braces are:
    1. Comfortable: There is very little to minor discomfort post self ligating braces. Especially children adjust better to them
    2. Less time taking:Since the torque value(the force which aligns the teeth) is inbuilt in them, they can be controlled better resulting in better & faster results
    3. Excellent for complex cases:They are suitable for simple & complex cases, where traditional metal braces may not work
    4. Less visits: Since these permit longer time in between appointments, it means less visits to the dentist
  • LINGUAL BRACES
For those prioritising aesthetics, lingual braces are mounted on the back sides of the teeth, making them virtually invisible. Despite their discreet placement, lingual braces effectively correct many orthodontic issues..
  • INVISIBLE BRACES / CLEAR ALIGNERS IN RAJARHAT NEWTOWN
Clear aligners are nearly invisible plastic trays that snap over your teeth. As you wear them, they apply gentle pressure on your teeth to gradually reposition them. If you have mild to moderate orthodontic problems, aligner treatments may be the orthodontic solution you’ve been looking for.
Aligners need to be worn 20-23 hours a day & have to be changed in 1–2 weeks.

THE ADVANTAGES OF CLEAR ALIGNERS ARE:
    1. They are virtually invisible
    2. They are more comfortable since you can remove them & eat everything.
    3. Less number of visits: Since aligners are removable & have to be changed every 1-2 weeks, you can change them yourself & visit the dentist once on 2 months or so
The treatment is time 1-1.5 years, though it might vary depending on your problem
Clear aligners are available from Invisalign & Illusion Aligners at Smilestone Dental Care, Rajarhat Newtown.
