WHAT IS PAEDIATRIC DENTISTRY ?

WHAT IS PAEDIATRIC DENTISTRY ?

Paediatric Dentistry is the branch of dentistry that is concerned with preventive and therapeutic oral health care for children from birth through to adolescence, and especially for those with special needs. It includes management of orofacial problems related to medical, behavioural, physical and developmental disabilities.
We have specialist dentists trained in pedodontics(paediatric dentists)

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PEDODONTISTS & OTHER DENTISTS?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PEDODONTISTS & OTHER DENTISTS?

Dentistry has 9 different specialisations. Pedodontists are dentists with a masters degree(3 years of advanced training) in children’s dentistry. Children are usually afraid of the dentist. Pedodontists effectively manage children by reducing their fear of dentistry via counselling & specialised techniques.

Enabling your child to cope well with their treatment is our highest priority, and will ensure they are happy to visit the dentist in years to come

SLEEP DENTISTRY FOR CHILDREN

Children have a lower pain threshold which means they feel pain more than adults example the prick of a needle. When children develop cavities, they are very frequently not able to articulate the problem. This leads to the cavities extending further and causing pain. They are also very fearful of sitting in the dental chair or getting any treatment done since it scares them. Even after counseling they are not very willing to get the treatment done, especially injections. Conscious sedation means awake sedation. With the help of happy gas, we are able to relax them, enabling their cooperation. This helps them sit still for the procedure helping, ensuring precision and success. This is also helpful for children with special needs. Click here to know more about it.

CHILDREN WITH MEDICAL AND GENETIC CONDITIONS

CHILDREN WITH MEDICAL AND GENETIC CONDITIONS

Many children with serious medical or genetic conditions require dental care in conjunction with other medical doctors and allied health professionals. Dental health has significant impacts on general health, and Paediatric Dentists understand the importance of an oral health care plan that is tailored to your child’s needs.
  • Management of dental injuries to both primary and permanent teeth.
  • Management of children with dental conditions such as missing teeth, extra teeth, enamel defects and abnormal eruption of teeth.
  • Children with anxiety or behavioural issues.
  • Very young children
Paediatric Dentists are happy to see children from birth for a variety of neonatal oral conditions, assessing oral and facial growth and development, eruption of teeth, early guidance on when and how to brush for young children and nutritional advice for toddlers and young children to minimise decay risk in the future.

BABY TEETH AREN’T PERMANENT... SO WHY DO WE NEED SPECIAL CARE FOR THOSE?

Yes baby teeth aren’t permanent but they play an important role in their development. While the baby teeth are in place, these teeth help your little one to speak, smile and chew properly. Most importantly they are holding the space for the permanent teeth in their jaw. So if the teeth are lost early, maybe due to decay or damage the nearby tooth can shift to that place which will surely result in crooked or misaligned permanent teeth. And also the general health of a child is very much affected by their oral health.

WHAT IF MY CHILD DEVELOPS A HABIT TO SUCK THE THUMB?

There has always been a large majority of children who suck their thumbs or fingers as little kids but they mostly grow out of it after reaching a certain age. It doesn't do any permanent damage to their teeth but if they continue sucking after permanent teeth have erupted, let your dentist know so they can check and see if the habit may cause any problem in future
